The Leiden Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition

The Leiden Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition was launched in India in 2010. It is the brainchild of our Managing Partner, Nitin Sarin and Prof. Pablo Mendes de Leon, Director, International Institute of Air & Space Law (IIASL), Leiden University, the Netherlands.

Based on the discussion between Prof. Pablo and Mr. Nitin Sarin, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the IIASL and the Sarin Memorial Legal-Aid Foundation, the legal aid arm of the Firm to organise the Moot Court annually. The first Moot was held in New Delhi, at the National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) and was inaugurated by Mr. Justice S.S. Nijjar, Judge Supreme Court of India and the then Chief Minister of New Delhi, Late Mrs. Shiela Dixit.

Ten years down the line, the Moot has competition has grown from strength to strength and travelled the world over. The Moot has been organised in New Delhi, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bucharest, Istanbul, Jakarta, Beijing, Malta, Seoul, Chandigarh. Not only does the Moot bring the brightest young minds from across the globe together to compete against each other; it also brings the best experts in the field of air law from around the world to judge the competition year after year.

Sarin McGill Annual Student Essay Content on Aircraft Finance & Leasing

The Sarin-McGill Essay Contest has been established to promote the field of Aircraft Finance & Leasing Law among law students across the globe.

The topic of Aircraft Finance & Leasing Law is often overlooked due to a common misconception that the field occupies a very niche spot, resulting in inadequate attention being accorded to this fascinating and dynamic field of law.

Aircraft Finance & Leasing Law blends aspects of both international and domestic law, enhancing its interest and complexity. The conflict between international and domestic law poses a riveting challenge to lawyers practicing in this particular field of law. Moreover, various issues related to implementation of international law are faced on a daily basis depending upon jurisdiction.

Sarin & Co., a leading Indian law firm with a strong speciality in the field of Aircraft Finance & Leasing Law, has established this Essay Contest with the main objective of promoting the subject of Aircraft Finance & Leasing Law and encouraging student authors to think creatively and beyond the established rules and principles of law, thereby adding a future-leaning dimension and innovative approach to this ever-evolving field of law.

Sarin Foundation Best Mooter of the Year AIL

The Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation, the legal aid arm of Sarin & Co., has consistently over the last decade, through various initiatives, wanted to give back to the legal fraternity and has therefore supported various causes to facilitate the shaping young students of law into fine lawyers.

The Sarin Foundation Best Mooter of the Year Award is one such initiative under the Foundations ‘Legal Social Responsibility’.

Every year, a student of the Army Institute of Law, Mohali is awarded with a scholarship of Rs. 50,000/- for excelling in the field of mooting.

The winner of the award is announced with great fanfare every year at Army Institute of Law, Mohali at the inauguration of the AIL – Sarin National Rounds of the Leiden Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition.

The Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation, the legal aid arm of Sarin & Co., has stepped in to fill the gap by way of fulfilling its legal social responsibility to promote the field of legal education, etc.

The Sarin Foundation Best Mooter of the Year Award for the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala is one such initiative.

Every year, a student of the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala is awarded with a gold medal for excelling in the field of mooting. The gold medal is funded through the interest earned on a corpus of Rs. 3,00,000/- provided by the Foundation.
